From local streams and ponds, to deep sea fishing in the North Sea (and in-between!) there are many opportunities in Germany to cast a line. Through the U.S. Forces German Fishing course you will learn about fishing law, hydrology, equipment, ichthyology, diseases and the requirements and procedure to acquire your German fishing license. You will find several varieties of trout, catfish, and pike, along with many other fish in the waters of Germany and other European countries.

There are many fishing opportunities here in Germany. However, you must have a license and permit to fish in most places. There are multiple steps required to be able to earn your U.S. Forces German Fishing License. The following is an instruction guide on how to earn your U.S. Forces German Fishing License.
1. U.S. Forces German Fishing Course: Head to your local (ODR) Outdoor Recreation and join the (HFSS) Hunting Fishing and Sport Shooting group. You have to be a member to take any of the HFSS courses. While you are there, sign up for the next available U.S. Forces German Fishing Course. The fishing course is a 4-day course that will educate the novice angler and provide Germany specific fishing rules and regulations.
2. License: Once you have passed the ODR Fishing Course you will receive a card stating you have passed the course. You will need this card when you go to apply for your license. You will apply for your license at your local Rathaus (Courthouse). You will need your Passport, a passport photo, a copy or your orders, and the ODR Fishing Course card. It is recommended to buy a license that has an expiration date beyond your expected DEROS date.
3. Permit/s: Now that you have your Germany wide license, you will need permits for specific bodies of water. Fishing rights are controlled by State and private organizations. For example, The Hessen side of the Rhein river and the Rhineland-Pfalz side require a permit to fish the Rhine river on their side of the river. Many fishing ponds are privately controlled and you must purchase a day permit/card from the owner.
Your permit will have specific regulations for its corresponding body of water. Each body of water may have different fishing seasons, limits, and regulations. It is your responsibility to know what the rules are.
Also You need AE Form 215-145B filled out and signed by a O5/GS 13 or above. Bring Euros to pay for the license. 10 years of age and up need to have a fishing license.
Your HFSS Card must be valid for the length of you fishing license under the SOFA Agreement.
Keep your White Prüfungszeugis card in a safe place.
